Inspiring Australian photography
Ken Duncan is one of the world’s leading exponents of panoramic landscape
photography. We share Ken’s passion for the Australian landscape and his
photographs adorn the walls of our Blackburn offices.
He
has numerous national and international awards to his credit. Through his
stunning photography he seeks to draw viewers beyond the mundane to a deeper
experience of life on an awesome planet.
Interested in photography since his early teens, his turning point came when
the Widelux camera became available in Australia. On testing the camera's
capabilities, he realised he had found a vehicle which could translate onto
film exactly what he could see in a landscape. In 1982 Ken left Sydney to
realise his dream of producing a book to depict the vastness and diversity
of the Australian landscape. He sought out places not previously
photographed in order to provide a feeling of the real Australia and our
pioneering spirit which exists beyond the coastal fringes.
In the course of his journey, Ken has endured many hardships in order to
realise his dream, including taking a fall from the Olgas in the Northern
Territory which resulted in damage to his left big toe causing gangrene and
eventual amputation. The freezing damp of Western Tasmania brought about
hypothermia causing severe damage to his nervous system from which Ken took
many months to recover.
The
Ken Duncan Galleries represent the largest group of privately owned
photographic galleries in the country. They are located in the stylish
Southgate Arts and Leisure precinct in Melbourne, the historic Rocks region
in Sydney, the scenic Hunter Valley and the peaceful Matcham Valley on the
Central Coast of New South Wales. They have become major tourist
destinations and cater to overseas travellers as well as local visitors. The
galleries are sanctuaries where God can refresh the human spirit through the
beauty of His creation.
Constantly travelling to destinations both well known and unfamiliar, Ken
continues to enthral people with the beauty of God’s Creation. He endeavours
to bring this beauty to others so that they may be blessed by it. Ken sees
himself as “an average photographer with a great God” and believes the art
of photography is in seeing the image; capturing it on film is the technical
craft. Ken is an interpreter of God’s creation and undoubtedly one of the
world’s great photographers.
