Exploring tax opportunities for families

Key issues you need to know about our tax system

Wednesday 6 June 2012

The family tax assistance landscape changes more quickly each year and the 2012 Federal Budget is no exception.  For families, the changes mean you need to understand your entitlements and how to apply for them.  Families are often confronted with decisions about whether to take the baby bonus or paid parental leave and whether they will be better off returning to work full time or doing a level of part time work. Our family tax specialist, Simon Dinér, will outline some of these key issues.

The tax system also offers key salary packaging and superannuation concessions for Australian families.  Negative gearing is another popular tax incentive for families with an investment property.  We will be walking through both these opportunities for families and also methods of improving your tax position.

Some of the key issues to be explored during the seminar will be:

bullet Federal Budget announcements affecting families
bullet Overview of the Australian family assistance landscape
bullet Empowering you to understand your entitlements and how to apply
bullet Baby Bonus vs Paid Parental Leave
bullet Family Tax Benefit – tips & traps
bullet Returning to work after parental leave – how much will I actually take home each week if I return to work? Should I wait before returning to work?
bullet Year end tax tips and reminders
bullet Superannuation and salary packaging opportunities
bullet Negative gearing – is it still worth considering?
